This is an excerpt from a broader quantitative and qualitative research that aimed to understand health professionals about the importance of public mental health policies addressed to the LGBTQIA+ population and the creation of an guide for the care of its entire population. Methodology and methods: A semi-structured online test (QOL) was applied with mental health professionals from different training centers. In this article, we present the thematic analyzes of two questions addressed to understand public mental health policies for the LGBTQIA+ population. Results: The QOL was answered by 132 mental health professionals from different professional groups, of which 60% reported not knowing specific mental health policies for the LGBTQIA+ population, although most respondents understand that it is important to have policies that point out guidelines and specific mental health practices targeted to this population. It is identified that among the professionals who claim to know the intended public health policies, those who declare themselves to be LGBTQIA+ stand out, demonstrating a direct relationship of politically involved and incarnated care to be established between users and LGBTQIA+ professionals.
