Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between social image, self-image and self-esteem based on the relationship between people with disabilities, clothing and the issue of representativeness.  A negative social image and self-image impact the perception of what can be used, when and where, and can generate feelings of inadequacy and shame.  Such feelings are accentuated to the extent that one does not find or few positive references on which it is possible to rely (representativeness), as with people with disabilities.  Since testimonials published on social networks presented the relationship with clothing as a recurring theme, we investigated the resistance project #pcdsnacapa, which reconstructs magazine covers, but with people with disabilities as central characters.  What we could perceive is the agency of people in the search for representativeness and change in the social image and self-image and the place that clothes play in this process as an instrument not only of self-expression, but also of self-reconstruction.
