Abstract

The primitive ‘Livraria’ of the Viscounts of Balsemão currently belongs to the heritage collections of the Oporto Municipal Public Library, Portugal. We refer to the main founders of this remarkable private aristocratic library and the circumstances that affected it. The aim of this work is, however, to highlight and analyze different types of provenance marks which are found in some rare books of Balsemão library; books circulation routes are also mentioned, as well as connections with previous owners.
