The CONTRIBUTION OF LIBRARIES TO THE UNITED NATIONS AGENDA 2030

The 2030 Agenda is a proposal from the United Nations, composed for 17 objectives, whose purpose is the social, economic and sustainable development of nations. The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) was one of the active members in the elaboration of this document, recognizing libraries as key institutions for achieving these goals. An ethical perspective can be attributed to these aspects, allied to the informational units that could be understood as spaces that enable the social and cultural progress of the population, in view of the well-being of these users. The present article questioned how libraries can, in fact, contribute to the development of these goals, considering the recognition attributed to these spaces for implementing the objectives found in the agenda. As aim, it was intended, through an ethical perspective, to analyze how activities, processes and values of the informational units can assist in the effectiveness of the fulfillment of the objectives proposed by Agenda 2030. Methodologically, a search was carried out in the databases BRAPCI and Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA) in articles that had the term “agenda 2030” in their titles, abstracts or keywords. The 33 retrieved articles were analyzed through Content Analysis, in order to identify their ethical precepts and ways in which libraries could contribute to the fulfillment of the agenda. It was possible to identify that libraries can help by enabling quality education, in an inclusive, equitable manner and also by reducing inequalities, whether they be gender, race or accessibility. Some ethical values can be found in this premise, in particular access to information, cultural diversity and equality.
