Abstract

Identify the viability of the application of Zipf´s Law and Goffman´s Transition Point in a personal archive, of Bertha Maria Júlia Lutz (1894-1976), with objective of finding words with hight semantic meaning for its indexation. Daughter of the Braziliab scientist Adolph Lutz, Bertha was a scientist graduated from Sorbonne, a feminist , federal deputee, professor emeritus of the UFRJ. Specialized on Anura Anphibians, she worked at Museu Nacional (Brazil)/UFRJ and in Instituto Oswaldo Cruz. Zipf was a linguistic who criated two laws based on the empiric observation and on the analysis of the frequency of the appearance of some words in a enough long text extracted from scientific and technical articles. These laws were completed by various studies and were enriched by the Goffman´s Transition Point. It relates with the representation of the information and more precision on its retrieval. These laws were applicable in scientific letters which confirmed the viability of its application in the indexation of archives.
