MERCADO, DOMINAÇÃO E LIBERDADE NO REPUBLICANISMO CONTEMPORÂNEO

O artigo analisa os usos do conceito de mercado na teoria política do republicanismo contemporâneo, enfocando o problema da (in)compatibilidade entre estruturas e práticas de mercado e o ideal neorromano de liberdade como não dominação. Na literatura recente, emergem três abordagens para o problema: 1) pró-mercado, 2) antimercado e 3) de mercado regulado. Enquanto a abordagem pró-mercado se atém exclusivamente a mecanismos de “saída” para reduzir a dominação na esfera econômica, a abordagem antimercado reconhece legitimidade apenas em mecanismos de “voz”, resultando em atrofia crítica da abordagem 1 e deficiência normativa da abordagem 2. O artigo conclui que a abordagem do mercado regulado, desde que reformulada para compreender a dimensão estrutural da dominação via mercado, oferece a melhor perspectiva para conciliar crítica e normatividade na teoria republicana, bem como para combinar saída e voz na luta contra a dominação econômica.
