The paper reviews the evolution of Information Retrieval (IR) research in the last two decades and the representation and positioning of this topic within the research in Library and Information Science. Trends and perspectives in user-centered IR research are specifically addressed, referring to human computer interaction and information behavior in the seeeking and retrieval activity. Converging trends between the two research areas with shared interests are observed in the literature analysed, suggesting the exploration of common ground and progress towards a more robust integrated research field.
