This work deals with short stories as a mediator of orality at basic levels in teaching the Spanish language. The objective of the study is to develop oral dexterity at basic levels of proficiency in Spanish by exposing students to listening to short stories. To undertake the study, we were guided by theories that support the research, such as contributions on the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreign language, according to (Gargallo, 2010); (Gómez, 2003), regarding the theory relating to oral expression; (Baralo, 2011) and (Krashen, 1981), with the theoretical contribution regarding the acquisition of second languages and, regarding the communicative approach and the task-based approach, we draw on studies by (Campos, 2009) and (Bygate, 2001), respectively. The corpus of this research is based on the short story “Lola”, by Editora Edelsa, in order to stimulate the oral practice of the target audience in question, based on proposed activities that corroborate our hypothesis by verifying that they provide fertile ground for the use of the language Spanish.
