POEM AND RHYTHM IN MESCHONNIC:
A FOLLOW-UP TO HUMBOLDT'S LINGUISTICS OF CHARACTER

This article presents a continuation of Humbold’s ideas (1990 [1836]) regarding language, literature and the character of the languages, in poetics, more precisely in the notion of poem and rhythm, by Meschonnic (2007; 2009 [2007]; 2010 [1999]). For Humboldt (1990 [1836]) languages are what make it possible for the spirit of the nation to express itself. Therefore, each language has its own character that is marked in the literature of the nations. Meschonnic (2007; 2009 [2007]; 2010 [1999]) proposes his poetics based on the study of the rhythm of the poem, and of language as a continuum. The aim is to demonstrate how the non-reducing thought of the humboldtian language is present in the theoretic proposal of the study of the meschonniquian language.
