Abstract

Infertility has been considered a public health problem and a condition faced by many people in the world. The present review aimed to investigate the factors: lifestyle, models of masculinities and attention to sexual and reproductive health of men with infertility. Therefore, an integrative review of 24 peer-reviewed scientific papers was carried out. The results were organized into three categories of analysis: interference of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors on infertility in men; impacts of the hegemonic masculinity model on infertile men; problems faced in the attention to the sexual and reproductive health of men. Such results indicate how much infertility in men is still understood by a biological and medical view, crossed by myths and stereotypes. Masculinities interfere in the social representations of infertility in men, which is primarily seen as linked to women and not to men. Health services still have barriers when it comes to care in the field of sexual and reproductive health for men, particularly because men still show resistance to taking care of their health preventively.
