Abstract

This article discusses issues related to the use of the relative pronoun “What and Where” in oral Mozambican Portuguese with the topic “The relative analysis pronouns of “What and Where” in oral Mozambican Portuguese” whose objective is to understand the current situation of the Portuguese language and make the analyzes under the syntactic point of view, in view of this to obtain the data we used the methodology of discourse analysis extracted in several programs of the national television channels and in informal interviews taken with the students of the Agricultural Engineering and Food Engineering course of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences . The specific programs explored were: : Night Journal from TVM, Speaks Mozambique from Miramar, Weekly Review from Miramar and Principal Journal from TV SUCESSO and it was possible to collect one hundred (100) relative constructions of “Where and What” and during the analysis it was understood that the Portuguese spoken in Mozambique is far from standard Portuguese because in a universe of one hundred relative constructions, only nine corresponding to 9% were canonical and 84% deviated from the standard norm. The identified deviations are centered on the Double occurrence of relative; Use of the constituent “Where” with an antecedent – LOC; Use of pronouns in situations where the empty category should occur; Improper choice of pronoun. When reading the corpus, it was possible to understand the linguistic interference of L1 (Bantu languages) in L2 (Portuguese language), since in Bantu languages the pronouns have the same phonetic characteristics and this makes some speakers who or not have the Bantu language as L1 make this mistake, so we conclude that a strong linguistic study is needed in order to standardize the variation of Portuguese spoken in Mozambique.
