Résumé

A sociedade transforma-se velozmente. Novos valores vão surgindo colocando a modernidade em seu limite histórico. Neste artigo são analisadas as principais transformações que estão ocorrendo na sociedade contemporânea, caracterizada pela presença generalizada de imagens e informações, que circulam velozmente pelos novos meios eletrônicos de comunicação. Neste contexto, o artigo discute o papel do sistema educacional na sociedade do mass media, analisando, particularmente, a situação das universidades relativo às suas práticas e políticas audiovisuais.

THE UNIVERSITY AND THE NEW MILLENIUM

Society transforms itself rapidly. New values are arising, pushing modernity towards its historical limit. In this article the principal transformations that are occurring in contemporary society are analyzed, characterized by the general presence of images and information, which rapidly circulate via the new electronic means of communication. In this context, the article discusses the role of the educational system in the society of mass media, analyzing, in particular, the situation of the universities relative to their audio-visual techniques and politics.
