Admirável Mundo Novo: o novo contexto da política

Resumo

A modernidade acreditou que, como coletivo humano, quanto mais soubéssemos sobre a realidade social e material mais seríamos capazes de controlá-las em beneficio dos nossos interesses e nos tornaríamos mestres do nosso próprio destino. Bem ao contrário, o mundo de hoje é aquele da incerteza e do risco produzidos. A globalização tem significado a transformação dos sistemas econômicos e da estratificação, assim como dos contextos da experiência social -o cotidiano, as intimidades da existência pessoal e as tradições culturais e políticas herdadas, o que tem expandido a reflexividade social. O mundo demanda uma política radical reconstituída, traçada a partir do conservadorismo filosófico, mas, também, preservando valores associados ao socialismo, visando a democratização da democracia.

Modern man used to believe that the more we knew about our social and material reality the more capable we would be of dominating it in order to benefit our own interests and make ourselves masters of our own destiny. However, to the contrary, today's world is that which produces uncertainty and risk. Globalization has meant the transformation of economic systems and of stratification, as well as changes within the context of social experience - the day to day, the intimacy of personal existence and the inherited cultural traditions and political behaviours - which has resulted in the expansion of social reflexivity. It is proposed that the world demands a radically reconstituted political behaviour, outlined by philosophical conservatism, but preserving values associated with socialism, aiming at the democratization of democracy.
