About the Journal

HISTORY AND SCOPE

The Revista Brasileira de Direito Animal (RBDA) is the first of its kind in Latin America. Its relevance goes beyond its pioneering in Latin America. It soon became a forum for international debate and research, contributing significantly to the evolution of thought towards the recognition of Animal Rights. The Journal has already published articles on speciesism, the legal status of animals, habeas corpus for great primates, animal abolitionism, among other innovative themes, which have introduced new theories in this branch of Law.

The RBDA was born in 2006 by initiative of Professor Heron Santana Gordilho, PhD, from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), and Luciano Rocha Santana, PhD student at the University of Salamanca (Spain), who was joined by Tagore Trajano da Silva, PhD student at UFBA.

The journal has an A1 classification according to the Qualis Periodicals of CAPES, and is linked to the Center for Research and Extension in Animal Rights, Environment and Postmodernity (NIPEDA) and to the Postgraduate Program of the Law School of UFBA.
