Abstract

The interview presents some challenges facing IBGE regarding the production of the 2022 Maroons Societies (“quilombola”) Census. The pre-production period involved articulations internal and external to the Organ (with other institutions and with the quilombola movement) in the construction of sensibilities and methodologies, in addition to mapping quilombola locations for the “application” of the questionnaire with the question about the identification “quilombola”. Finally, the post-production period of the census was also addressed, with issues surrounding dissemination.

Author Biographies

Fátima Regina Gomes Tavares, Federal University of Bahia

Graduated in Social Sciences from UFRJ, with a Master's degree in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Anthropology, including a research stint at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. Full professor at UFBA since 2009, with a tenure at UFJF. She was a visiting researcher at the Université de Montréal (2018). Her work focuses on the Anthropology of Health and Religion, with an emphasis on Afro-Brazilian religions, new religiosities, health in quilombos, and care networks. She co-coordinates Observabaía, conducting research on health, religion, and community development.

Cíntia Beatriz Müller, Federal University of Bahia

Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Ethnology at UFBA, with a Master's and Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from UFRGS. Former coordinator of the Graduate Program in Anthropology (2012-2014), she leads the research group Pacto. She has conducted research in various regions of Brazil and currently focuses her studies in the Recôncavo da Bahia, with an emphasis on interethnic relations, quilombolas, and public policies. She has been a member of the Quilombos Committee of the Brazilian Anthropology Association since 2009. She became a mother in 2015.
