Abstract

This article seeks to observe the intermedial relationship with Brazilian music in the feature film Bacurau (2019), by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles. To support our analysis, we sought the trajectory of Kleber Mendonça Filho, who, although he considers himself a younger director than the generation of filmmakers from Pernambuco, known as Árido Movie, also called Mangrove Cinema, is directly related to the music of the cultural movement. Manguebeat. Thus, both in Bacurau and in the cinematographic trajectory of Kleber Mendonça Filho, there is a close relationship with music. This information is the clue that motivated us to relate Bacurau and its director to the generation of Árido Movie. Therefore, it is worth thinking about how the intermedial relationship with Brazilian music in Bacurau contributes to associating him with the generation of Pernambuco filmmakers.
