Through an analysis of Bamako (2006), we seek to investigate the possibility of historical reparation for exploited and neglected people through film writing. The film takes place in the homonymous city, where a fictional trial is established. At stake are legal measures taken by African society against the World Bank and the IMF. We take Jacques Rancière’s (1996) thinking as a reference, for whom politics is the conflict over the existence of a common scene. Closely to what Rancière postulates, Sissako’s gesture is toput in dispute the possibility that the African people will be heard by large oppressive
institutions that collect a debt.
