GRETA’S MULTIPLE FACES: ADOLESCENCE, ACTIVISM AND INSPIRATION

Abstract

This article analyzes images of Greta Thunberg, a teenager and environmental activist, in her mediatic presencWe on the social network Instagram. The theoretical framework deals with the issue of adolescence from a sociocultural perspective; discusses the meanings of activist practice in the globalized context of communication; and reflects on the culture of inspiration in that context. The methodology of analysis is based on Landowski’s proposal, on the imagery expression of identity and difference; and in Charaudeau’s communication contracts. Among the study’s conclusions, we highlight the contradictions of Greta’s adolescent condition, of her political role and of the global
projection of her image as an inspiring leader.
