Abstract

This article deals with aesthetic/symbolic “manufacture” of the body by the culture in the post-modernity era focusing fashion as an empirical example of the manifestation of the observed phenomenon. The statutes acquired by the body by means of aesthetic representations that are “marked” in the corporal portion as signals of a specific culture, are focused according to the meanings that comprehend its cultural universe. The aesthetic dictatorship of the fashion is analyzed as a cultural mark of our time. The fashion appears in this context as an universe of significations shared in the modern occidental urban culture that takes the body portion as way of subjectivity expression, of group identification, of communication between individuals and collectives by the messages codified in the body as meant.
