In this text, Dean Spade delves into the significance of non-monogamous relationships from the perspective of trans and queer politics, drawing on insights from his own experiences and those of the communities in which he is involved. Keeping this intersectionality in mind, Spade discusses the influence of capitalism on the culture of sexual exclusivity and argues that non-monogamous relationships can serve as a crucial arena of experimentation for sexual and gender dissidence. Simultaneously, Spade exposes the risks and personal costs of prescribing any formula for building relationships as a standard of political or sexual radicalism, leading to the establishment of a new social norm.
