Reflections on the ‘Macaquinhos’ performance

Abstract

After the dissertation defended in 2019 within the Graduate Performing Arts course at UFRN, several sources
used disappeared, as if, in the current political scenario, some websites and platforms decided to withdraw news and
materials about the work Macaquinhos. Similarly, some videos of politicians—used in their election campaigns—were
removed from platforms like YouTube. This provided the possibility of updating the references and dialogues and
republishing this material to seek a different perspective on the work and the naked body on stage. In this updating process, the text raise questions involving the artistic nude, its obstacles and the persecution suffered by artists with nudity works, focusing on Macaquinhos. It dialogues with artists who see the anus as a place of knowledge and space against normativity.
