About the Journal

Focus and Scope

In Revista Periódicus, a biannual publication of the Nucleus for Research and Extension in Cultures, Genders and Sexualities (NuCuS), of the Federal University of Bahia, texts will be published that dialogue with studies on gender and sexualities from dissident and/or undisciplined perspectives, especially feminist, queer, transfeminist, anti-racist, and anti-colonial studies. However, the texts do not need to dialogue exclusively with these conceptual reflections.

Revista Periódicus is interested in texts that problematize norms, normalizations and naturalizations about gender and sexuality, in particular works that discuss heteronormativity and cisnormativity, heterosexuality and compulsory cisgenderness, as well as critical analyzes of gender and sexuality binarisms. Priority will be given to works that highlight and problematize "regimes of truth" about gender and sexualities, especially those from an intersectional perspective.

Revista Periódicus comprises a thematic Dossier, which publishes unpublished texts on the same theme, which changes with each edition, and a Free Section, which publishes texts that are under the scope of the journal, but do not fit into the dossiers. The texts may be in the form of Articles, Essays, Translations, Interviews and Reviews, in addition to literary texts, manifestos and other more experimental textual forms. All publications must have at least 60% of their original research content, within the scientific and academic scope. Each Dossier has specific deadlines detailed in the calls for publication, while the Open Session receives applications in a continuous flow. More information in "Guidelines for Authors".

Peer Review Process

Revista Periódicus uses the Double Blind Peer Review method, with texts being evaluated by two ad hoc referees selected by the Journal. There are no fees for the submission, evaluation and publication of manuscripts. Before being peer-reviewed, submitted articles are checked by plagiarism detection tools. Authors undertake to guarantee the originality, authorship and originality of the submitted text.

Frequency

The journal Periodicus is a biannual publication. Special issues and issues may increase the number of editions. These changes are at the discretion of the Editorial Team.

Open Access Policy

This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge available to the public free of charge provides greater world democratization of knowledge. Revista Periódicus uses the Creative Commons Attribution license and allows authors, as long as the initial publication in Revista Periódicus is made explicit, to publish the texts in book form.

Historic

In the early 2000s, Brazil experienced a significant expansion of Gender and Sexuality Studies in Brazilian Universities. The consolidation of multidisciplinary and specific academic events in this area proves the "boom" of research on gender and sexualities in all areas of knowledge. Despite this, there are still few academic journals designed to host this scientific production, which makes the dissemination of production in the area unfeasible. In addition, there are no journals that prioritize thematically and methodologically research related to queer and transfeminist studies, which are growing in quantity and quality, in Brazil and in the world, at a dizzying rate. Because of this, Revista Periódicus aims not only to increase the number and quality of research publications on Gender and Sexuality, but also to prioritize publications on queer, transfeminist, anti-racist and anti-colonial studies.

Ethics Policy: ethical principles and good practices
Revista Periódicus is committed to the ethics and quality of publications, and deviations from academic conduct are not admissible, whether by the Editorial Team and its referees, or by its authors. We defend an ethical behavior of all parties involved in the publication: authors, editors and reviewers, as well as we defend ethical procedures throughout the editorial process, submission and evaluation to publication. Therefore, we do not accept plagiarism or any other type of unethical behavior.

Authors who want to publish their material in Revista Periódicus must fully agree with these instructions, which seek to ensure the quality of the published works, with respect to our readers and authors. Cases involving suspicions of unethical behavior or misconduct will be investigated by the Editorial Team, so that all doubts are resolved.

This statement is based on the “Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors” and standards developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), available here, which details the standards for publishing texts in our journal.

I - Duties of Publishers:

Publication decision: Publishers are responsible for deciding which articles submitted to Revista Periódicus should be published. Publishers are guided by the policies decided by the Editorial Board, the Scientific Committee and the Editorial Board of Scientific Journals. These policies comply with current legal requirements regarding defamation, copyright infringement and plagiarism. Eventually, publishers may consult with the Editorial Board for decision-making.

Transparency and Respect: Publishers should evaluate submitted manuscripts for their intellectual content, without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality: Publishers must not disclose any information about the submitted manuscript, except to the corresponding author, the referees and the Editorial Board, as the case may be.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Publishers cannot use unpublished materials published in manuscripts submitted in their own research without the express written consent of the author. Publishers must refuse to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative or other relationships or links with any of the authors, companies or institutions linked to the manuscripts.

Involvement and cooperation in investigations: Publishers should take appropriate action when ethical complaints are raised regarding a submitted manuscript or published article.

II - Duties of the Reviewers:

Contribution to editorial editions: the evaluation of reviewers helps publishers in making editorial decisions and, through communications with the authors, can also help them to improve the manuscript.

Punctuality: Any reviewer who does not feel qualified to review research presented in a manuscript or who knows that immediate reading will be impossible should immediately notify the publishers and withdraw from the review process.

Confidentiality: manuscripts received for analysis must be treated by reviewers as confidential documents. They must not be shown or discussed with others unless authorized by the publishers.

Objectivity standards: opinions must be objective, expressing the referee's point of view clearly, using arguments that support their assessment. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate.

Source Acknowledgment: Reviewers must identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Any assertion that an observation, derivation or argument has been published before must be accompanied by a citation of the relevant source. Reviewers should draw the editors' attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript in question and any other published article of which they are aware.

Disclosure and conflict of interest: privileged information or ideas obtained by reviewers through reading the manuscripts must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal gain. Reviewers should not evaluate manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative or other relationships or links with any of the authors, companies or institutions linked to the manuscripts.

III - Duties of Plaintiffs:

General rules: Authors of manuscripts that refer to original research must present an accurate account of the research work carried out, as well as an objective discussion of its meaning. Complementary data must be accurately presented in the manuscript. The document must contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention: Authors may be asked to provide raw data related to the submitted manuscript for the purpose of editorial review. They must be prepared to provide public access to such data and must, in any case, be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable period of time after publication.

Originality and plagiarism: authors must ensure that manuscripts are entirely original; if authors use the work and/or words of others, they must ensure that they are properly cited or referenced. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical editorial behavior and is unacceptable.

Multiple, Redundant and Simultaneous Publication: Authors should not publish manuscripts that essentially describe the same research in more than one journal. Send the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time and/or publishing the same article in more than one journal constitutes unethical editorial behavior and is unacceptable.

About sources: the work of other authors should always be acknowledged. Authors should cite publications that were important in determining the nature of the reported manuscript. Information obtained privately, as in a conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, should not be used or reported without the source's explicit written permission. Information obtained through confidential services, such as arbitration or grant applications, should not be used without the explicit written permission of the author of the work involved in these services.

Authorship: Manuscript authorship should be restricted to those who made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Persons who participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project should be credited or listed as contributors in a footnote. The lead author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors are included in the article. The lead author must also certify that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and that they have agreed to its submission for publication.

Hazards to humans or animals: Research involving chemicals, procedures or equipment that present any unusual risks to humans or animals must be clearly identified in the manuscript.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: All authors must disclose in the manuscript any financial, professional, or any other conflict of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in her published work, it is the author's obligation to immediately inform the journal's editors and cooperate with the editors to correct the article.
