SOUND DOCUMENTS: CHARACTERISTICS AND STRATEGIES FOR PRESERVATION

Abstract

Through new paradigms of sound presevation area, the text consists of principal characteristcs of audio carriers, the facts that are responsible for its deterioratios, such as the most recently strategies of presevation involving digital technologies. Concepts about preventive conservation are also discussed, besides questions involving metadata, that are essential for mass storage systems. Through the experience in the CPDOC/FGV Oral History Program and mainly references published on Internet, some methods of audio presevation that are adopted internationally are here dicussed. Finally some work strategies are suggested in a way to find some co-operative solutions for similar custody institutions. The text is a contribuition for reflexion about presevation for sound documents that lacks in Portuguese bibliography.
