The essential oil of aroeira is extracted from the leaves and fruits of the aroeira tree, native to Brazil. It has traditionally been used in folk medicine due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties. Studies indicate the use of essential oils in controlling insects and pests. Therefore, this work aims to explore the use of microencapsulated products by spray drying to prevent the tobacco beetle Lasioderma serricorne and the lesser mealworm Alphitobius diaperinus. The research method used was an investigative search in major scientific and patent databases. The results showed that as the search terms were specialized, the number of productions found decreased, and few focused on pest control. Moreover, most patent productions were carried out by companies such as Bayer CropScience, Dow, Gilead, Procter & Gamble, Corteva, and Fujifilm, demonstrating that there is corporate interest in the microencapsulation technology of natural products for pest management, aiming for more sustainable agriculture.
