Abstract

Frugal innovation is suitable for emerging markets and peripheral regions. This article aims to identify the potential of the projects in the Programa Institucional de Bolsas de Iniciação em Desenvolvimento Tecnológico e Inovação (PIBITI) at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), as potential technologies for frugal innovation. The methodology used is based on a qualitative approach to content analysis aiming to make replicable and valid inferences of interpretation and coding of textual material converted into quantitative data using the Iramuteq software. The results explained UFAL's areas of competence in PIBITI projects, as well as a relationship with problems observed locally, like proposed by Brem and Wolfram (2014), and much of the literature presented. However, it is important to highlight that the projects are not yet linked to the real demands of local companies, therefore, lacking the development of some methodology that makes this interface in the University-Company relationship.
