Cosmetic Patent Prospecting With the Presence of Malus Domestica and Similar Between the Years 2015-2020

Abstract

Malus domestica, which has metabolites present in its composition, has several applications. Phytochemical studies have demonstrated the presence of compounds such as malic acid and type B procyanidins that can be used in cosmetic formulations. This article discusses a search for patents on cosmetics with the presence of Malus domestica and similar species. The methodology used was a systematic review with a database obtained from Espacenet. Twenty-two patents were considered suitable for discussion in this review with the presence of Malus domestica in cosmetic formulations with moisturizing, anti-aging and whitening functions, where China obtained the highest number of patents filed with more than 40%. Malus domestica proved to be a promising source of metabolites applicable in the cosmetic area, due to the versatility found in patents, when using natural actives, which corroborates the growth of these patents and the study regarding the use of Malus domestica.
