Abstract

The present article aims to monitor the technologies associated with the application of ascorbic acid, from the search of information in patent banks, using the PatentInspiration® platform. Ascorbic acid is an essential nutrient and necessary for various metabolic reactions, being an essential substance because of its antioxidant character and can, therefore, be used as a natural preservative of foods, cosmetics and drugs. The present study deals with the survey of the technologies, applying as a search criterion an association of keywords: ascorbic acid, natural and preservative. The period considered was from 2000 to 2018/6, resulting in a total of 9.603 patents deposited, the year 2014 being the most significant deposit number. The central technology of application of ascorbic acid as a natural preservative was the formulation of preservatives plus other additives and natural antioxidants, besides, was the use of these technologies focuses on the food industry.
