Protection of Intellectual Property in the Academy: Case Study of UnB Gama University

Abstract

The objective of this article is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the registration of intellectual property in the academy, based on the case study of the UnB Gama College (FGA). The analysis is based on the protection statistics of trademarks, industrial designs, softwares and patents developed at the institution, obtained through searches on the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) (of Brazil) website, as well an interview with the team of the Technological Protection sector of University of Brasilia Technological Development Support Center (CDT/UnB). The results showed that FGA occupies a prominent position in the area of intellectual property protection in University of Brasilia. However, the study main conclusion is that the numbers of records are not significant if we consider the great technological potential that this campus has.

Larissa da Costa e Silva Godinho, University of Brasilia (UnB), Brasilia, DF, Brazil.

He holds a degree in librarianship from the University of Brasília (2011), a specialization in librarianship from Faculdade Internacional Signorelli (2013) and a professional master's degree in progress in Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer for Innovation. by PROFNIT at the University of Brasilia. He is currently Librarian at Faculdade UnB Gama.

Andréia Alves Costa, University of Brasilia (UnB), Brasilia, DF, Brazil.

She holds a degree in Chemistry from the University of Brasília (Bachelor in 2003 and Licensed in 2006), and a Master's degree in Chemistry from the same institution (2006). He completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Brasília (2011), participating in a Sandwiche doctoral project (2009-2010) at the University of Central Florida (USA). Experience in Inorganic Chemistry with emphasis on Catalysis, working mainly in the application of supported catalysts in oxidation reactions, esterification reactions for biodiesel production and adsorption reactions involving polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Currently, she works as a professor at Faculdade UnB-Gama (FGA) in the area of ​​Energy Engineering with emphasis on Oil and Gas.
