Abstract

What is literary reading in the French Foreign Language’s (FFL) classroom? Between emotion and creativity, in fact, the literary reading is a place of formation, implicit or explicit (Rouxel, 2004). Proposing a literary communication (Albert; Souchon, 2000), based on literary reading, about the relations between the sender, the text and the receiver, the teaching of FFL becomes more flexible and more “creative”, increases the pleasure in learning, engaging a reflection about the modes of discursive functions. In this sense, this work discusses the relevance of literature in FFL teaching and presents a report of classroom experience. With this focus, we ask ourselves how to work with the literary text without emptying its plurality? Why does literary text have an important role in foreign language learning? Which texts to choose, with which audience and for what purpose? How do you give them to the student-readers to read and what activities build around them? How to establish an affective relationship between students and the work? To this end, we worked with the novel L'odeur du café (1991) by Dany Laferrière, Haitian-Canadian writer, and we seek to develop and promote the taste for reading, aimed at a literary communication when analyzing the literary work in its literariness and polysemy.
