ABSTRACT
This article presents a comparative study about the meanings of death in the work Tereza Batista cansada de Guerra written by regional author Jorge Amado, hereby we propose to investigate these meanings with references to Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theory. In order to explore these different meanings, it was necessary to analyze the death and the main character’s behavior, Tereza Batista, around the studies Based on Freud’s essays in The Ego and the Id and Beyond the Pleasure Principle, we can comprehend and analyze through the behavior of human’s psyche, how the main character, Tereza Batista, behaved towards death, that it is showed in the novel through her feelings of fear, grief and melancholy of the instincts and conflicts of the Ego, here also analyzed and explained on the basis of Psychic concepts.
