Abstract

Speculations on the concept of the term “region” as a geographic category of analysis are abundant and diversified in the specialized literature, which demonstrates its importance and actuality. Nevertheless, the use of the term recurrently presents epistemological challenges when faced with contemporary themes, such as the possibilities of cultural regionalizations. This article aims to discuss the validity of those regionalizations considering the paradigms of postcolonialism – which bases its analysis of culture from a modern anthropological bias –, and, at the same time, to present its cartographic alternatives and challenges.
