Abstract

This paper discusses a few possible methodological highlights for data collection and qualitative analysis in the process of empirical research on the internet (FRAGOSO, RECUERO & AMARAL, 2011) applied to observation and analysis of fake Twitter profiles as a way of appropriation of cultural identity (WOODWARD, 2000; HALL, 2002) in digital environments. The context and results discussed here are gathered from Santos (2011) research about fake profiles of mass media celebrities on Twitter. The paper ́s main objective is to present some possibilities of exploring this digital plataform for empi- rical researches about this theme. The results collected from these procedurals have shown that appropriation of traces of identity generate connections with the audience of followers. Besides that, some patterns of uses and types of produced contented by these fakes are learnet through a process that includes media litteracy and a frequent use of the tool with its limitations and qualities.
