Hospitalizações por traumatismo cranioencéfalico em crianças e adolescentes no estado da Bahia, 2008 a 2017

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is considered one of the most common causes of trauma in children and adolescents, besides highlighting a significant magnitude of hospitalizations of this disease.The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence of TBI in children and adolescents in the State of Bahia from 2008 to 2017, according to gender, race and age group and to analyze the overall indices of TBI in Bahia in relation to other states of Brazil in the last. 10 years. Methods: This is an ecological study, which used the State of Bahia as a unit of analysis, from 2008 to 2017. Data were collected from the SUS Hospital Information System, aged 0 to 14 years and analyzed by gender, age group and race.Results: The incidence found was 27.3 cases / 100,000 children. It was found that in this 10-year period, the highest incidence occurred in 2011, in the 0 to 4 year age group, among males, brown color / race, with Bahia occupying the 15th position among the states.. Conclusion: The results confirm the high incidence of hospitalizations for TBI in children in the state of Bahia, and it is essential to consider these findings to help public health management to set goals for prevention, management and availability of beds, due to the high risk of hospitalization and sequelae functional disorders related to the disease.
