Como se fabrica um homem do mar? Considerações sobre as masculinidades no meio homossocial da pirataria moderna (séculos XVII e XVIII)

O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar uma proposta de análise de grupos piratas que atuaram no Atlântico entre a segunda metade do século XVII e início do século XVIII a partir da ótica de gênero. Para isso, utilizei como fonte o primeiro volume da edição inglesa da obra A General History of the Pyrates (1724). Assim, trago considerações gerais sobre a pirataria moderna, ancoradas em Rediker e Linebaugh (2008) e Benton (2010), apresento pesquisas em torno de questões de gênero e sexualidade na pirataria, discutindo os trabalhos de Burg (1995) e Turley (1999) e, por fim, apresento minha análise com base nas propostas de Connell (1995, 2000) e Scott (1995).
