Abstract

This article discusses how, from the 2000s onwards, Judith Butler carries out a creative reinterpretation of Hannah Arendt’s concepts. We privilege the appropriation made of the notion of “space of appearance” and its implications for trans issues. Here, space, more than a physical geography, appears as an Arendtian in-between that makes and breaks down through the encounter of bodies. To dialogue with the issue of the appearance and invisibility of trans people in the public space, we use the reflections of Viviane Namaste (2006); Susan Stryker and Stephen Whittle (2006); Viviane Vergueiro (2015).
