Abstract

Not all bodies nor all affects can circulate in the same ways in a certain society in a particular historical moment. When we consider the (im)possibilities of representation in art, we ask for the functioning of its aesthetic regime, linked to the conditions of production of discourses and subjectivities. In this article, we reflect upon the process of re-distribution of the sensible in Hujar’s and Wojnarowicz’s photographic works, grounded on the studies by Rancière (2009), Courtine (2013) and Safatle (2015). By analyzing their photography, we aim at showing how the (gay) body is artistically elaborated in these works and how these productions reconfigure the fields of the sensible and of the (in)visible, enabling the constitution of other bodies and other affects.
