Abstract

This article addresses a case study focused on the memories of Johny’s childhood, born in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, and the questions that led him to discover the intersexuality. The study allowed, through semi-structured interviews, presenting details of the young man’s trajectory, since by reflecting on the paths he has traveled this article proposes a dialogue with some categories that allow us to ponder on the condition of secrecy, medicalization, stigma, autonomy and struggle for recognition incorporated both in the academic productions and in the production of the intersex movement. Questioning “when and why say intersex?” allows us to explore the discursive limits that apprehend intersexuality in the condition of an undisclosed body.
