Abstract

First of all, I would like to say that it was a great honor to receive the invitation to write the editorial for Cadernos de Prospecção, volume 16, n. 1, of 2023, thinking of a closing moment for the year 2022. A year marked by many facts relevant to Brazil and the world. Some words marked this year, some of which stand out: “democracy”, “fakenews”, “ideology”, “pandemic”, “war”, “autonomy”, “sovereignty”, “independence”, “science”, “sustainability” , “environment”, “death”, “hunger”, “life”... We had important transformations resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic and a lot of research that led to the development of new technologies and studies on the impacts of the pandemic on life of people. Even though the world has advanced in the development of vaccines and treatments, nations are still faced with the immense task of caring for people, not because of a lack of technical and technological means, but because of the challenge of positioning themselves in favor of life. We celebrate 200 years of Brazil's independence, hence the theme for 2022 “Building Independence with Science, Technology and Innovation” for the event linked to Cadernos de Prospecção, ProspeCT&I – International Congress of the Graduate Program in Intellectual Property and Transfer of Technology for Innovation (PROFNIT). We need more people, research groups and networks and communities in general to discuss Science, Technology and Innovation policies and the protection of Intellectual Property in order to propose paths and solutions that lead us to quality of life, social justice and people's well-being, effectively generating technological autonomy and guaranteeing sovereignty.
Bring to the center of discussions, from an inclusive perspective, the enormous potential, knowledge, indigenous technologies, quilombolas, traditional communities, with research and development of new products and processes applied to different economic sectors, food production chains, pharmaceuticals, health, etc.; propose new assistive technologies; being attentive to the demands of people with disabling diseases, increasingly present in society, are possible ways to achieve autonomy, generating Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) indicators and local, regional and global competitive advantages. In this edition of Cadernos de Prospecção, 65 authors, 22 institutions, 12 Brazilian states and four regions of the country participate. This new publication presents applied research on relevant topics that contribute to the advancement of science and technological development, building our independence. It is not by chance that the National Transversal Themes chosen for 2023 by PROFNIT were: Regional Development and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), thus, such themes gave continuity to the journal's mission of educating people in a critical, constructive perspective , inclusive and welcoming to actually act as agents of positive transformation in local, regional and global realities. I hope that the reading of this edition can bring good insights for new paths to be researched!
