Abstract

In this edition of Cadernos de Prospecção Magazine, we will have the opportunity and privilege to have access to extremely relevant topics. Intellectual Property, Innovation, Technology Transfer, ICT-Company Interaction, prospective studies and other subjects that are part of the daily life of NIT managers and professionals in this rich and diverse area. In my twelve years of life dedicated to the work of NIT manager and, currently, IP and TT Manager, I am increasingly convinced that the professional in this area is, or should be, a person endowed with “multi-task” skills and competences. ”. When assisting the researcher/inventor (whatever he is in the area), at the time of preliminary evaluation of a patent application, for example, we must have the sensitivity to listen first and ask questions later. As we are not “in the area” of the researcher/inventor, we express our opinion about the idea or the result of a research that we have just heard, with great tact and caution (at this moment we assume the persona of a Psychologist). In a second moment, we assume the persona of the researcher who seeks and makes use of “search tools”, which aim to technically support a decision on patentability. In a third moment, we almost become a researcher in the area, when we review and analyze the wording of a patent application (obviously on formal and structural aspects, without going into scientific and technological merit). In a fourth moment, we assume the role of the negotiator or the “guy” who will find a company interested in buying a patented product, prospect scenarios and trends, define strategies to license this technology in the safest and most profitable way for everyone involved in the process ( researcher, ICT, company) and, finally, manage the royalties due for many, many years.
This simple administrative routine that I have just illustrated, brings with it the message that the NIT manager or the professional who works in this area, must be and remain “attuned” and open to all types of challenges that the world of innovation and technological development presents us every day. In this sense, Cadernos de Prospecção is an excellent option to keep us one step ahead. Light and Wisdom in our decisions!!!
