This edition of Cadernos de Prospecção has 18 (eighteen) articles in the sections Intellectual Property, Innovation and Development (5), Technological Prospections of Specific Subjects (11) and Geographical Indications (2). Also, together with the International Congress, there were SISGEN/MMA Training, FORTEC – NE Meeting, V Tech Mining and Innovation Workshop, V Meeting of Postgraduate Courses in PI&TT and Innovation, Meeting on PROFNIT® internationalization: ISEG Memorandum of Intentions /UL/PT & PROFNIT/FORTEC/BR and the XV Brazil Portugal Seminar. The VIII PROSPECT&I – International Congress of PROFNIT®, organized by the Brazilian Association of Managers of Innovation and Technology Transfer (FORTEC) in partnership with the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), took place from August 13 to 18, 2018 , in the city of Maceió - Alagoas and had about 550 subscribers. It was one of the most dense editions so far in terms of programming and number of participants, as well as diversified in terms of the presence of different civil society and governmental institutions: companies, Ministries, Universities, Federal Institutes, Sistema S, etc. In other words, the event promoted the interaction of the entities of the National Innovation System, corroborating the objective of encouraging scientific and technological development and focusing on the solution of Brazilian problems.
The articles in this issue focus on analyzing the production of industrial property indicators in the academic sector, the relationship between academia and the productive sector, including the area of Teaching Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship as a stimulus to innovation. In the topics related to Technological Prospects, different technological areas are explored (Mechanics, Biotechnology, Energy, Health, etc.), in addition to studies of the potential of products and services by national geographical indications. All of this demonstrates the diversity of knowledge generated within the institutions and the Graduate Program, which is in line with the mission of PROFNIT®, dedicated to the improvement of professional training to act in the competences of the Technological Innovation Centers (NITs) and in Innovation-Promoting Environments (academic, business, government, social organizations, etc.). In the current national context, every action to encourage research and development is of great importance, given the difficulties imposed by the political-economic crisis that has been directly affecting the public academic sector, as well as the business sector, due to the lack or effectiveness of policies of incentive to technological development, policies that are necessary to stimulate the production of products and services considered innovations in the market, which are fundamental for the autonomy and socioeconomic sustainability of the country. Cadernos de Prospecção Magazine contributes to the strengthening of the Innovation System, and this edition aims to consolidate the Journal as a means of disseminating the results of national scientific and technological research and development involving Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer for Innovation. May this issue of Cadernos de Prospecção be beneficial to readers and researchers.
