Abstract

The present work has the general objective of analyzing the role of the pedagogical coordinator in the educational field, observing its historical-political and social aspects of professional designation, unfolding in the following specific objectives: to contextualize the history of pedagogical coordination in Brazil and to identify the functions assigned from the literature in the area. The methodological option adopted is supported by a qualitative approach, based on bibliographic and documental research. This study is justified by highlighting the role of this professional, placing its centrality in the school space, in addition to highlighting elements of the constitution of such a function in the historical-political and social process of public education in Brazil. The results of the investigation reveal that this function is of essential importance for the school space, as it is attributed demands that go beyond the mere expectation of objective results, it involves democratic action, of a quality education that meets the aspirations of the community in which It's inserted; just as it is possible to observe many changes regarding the understanding of pedagogical coordination and its attributions over time, which allows us to consider that the research on the subject is not limited to this study.
