In this paper we discuss and analyze the collaborative editing of Wikipedia based on two fundamental characteristics of complex adaptive systems: self-organization and emergence. We begin with a conceptual review about peer “produsage” in internet and complexity theory. Then we analyze the edition of five “Biographies of living persons” of Brazilian personalities in Portuguese Wikipedia, aiming to understand how the poten- tially self-organized and emergents editorial processes take places through the agents interactions. After analyzing these data, we discuss the challenges of reconciling order and openness in the development of the “free encyclopedia that anyone can edit”.Downloads
