Abstract In this paper we present some results of the recently completed research on the reconfiguration of communicational circuits in the context of the fully automated lines (with no human conductor) of Paris subway. Taking Actor-network theory as a theoretical framework and ethnography as method, we argue that a new distribution of competences for subway operational tasks and utilization gets established and we explore the variety of stands and approaches developed by our diverse interlocutors. We point out that, in the context of the implementation of this integrated system of automatisms in the Paris subway and of the controversy that was generated, a situation of equilibrium was reached in which, on the other hand, one can discern actual or potential tensions.Downloads
