Abstract

Nowadays, the advance of technology has produced levels of noise from different sources which are potentially harmful to the human ear. The youths, adolescents in the majority, are usually exposed to amplified music of high intensity, especially during their leisure activities. This research aimed to explore the degree of the adolescents’ knowledge as far as the hearing losses caused by noise exposure are concerned. This was done through a field research involving 700 adolescents between 14 and 20 years old. The results demonstrate that, although 88 % from the studied population state that they know that the noise of high intensity can cause hearing losses, 90% neither know how to protect their hearing nor use efficient methods to do it.
