Periodontal disease- Crohn‘s disease - T cells profile.Abstract
The aim of this review was to assess the possible relationship between periodontal disease and Crohn‘s disease. The tissue destruction in periodontitis, a specific host reaction against the local accumulation of bacteria, is determined by the nature and the balance of celular and humoral immune responses. Theories have been postulated to explain the progression of gingivitis to periodontitis in the context of the Th1/Th2 paradigm. Crohn‘s disease has a Th1 profile and a number of inflammatory mediators are present in the inflamed intestinal mucosa. In conclusion, it is possible periodontitis is more prevalent in patients with Crohn‘s disease because these two diseases share pathogenic pathways, probably, due to the same T cells profile.Downloads
