The second wave of the feminist movement was characterized by the fact that feminism was no longer a monolithic movement. If the first wave of the feminist movement aspired to the conquest of political rights, the radical feminists of the second wave, in their revolutionary perspectives, questioned male domination, presenting that women's personal problems were not personal, but political. With the objective of understanding the radical feminist thought originating from the second wave of the feminist movement in the United States, this study presents an exposition of the main ideas developed in North American radical feminism. In our research, we used the bibliographic review method to expose the theoretical postulates promoted by radical feminists. In order to systematically organize the political thinking of radical feminists in our study, we present the concept of patriarchy, the idea of women as a social class, the vision of radical groups in relation to men and the position of radicals vis-à-vis some of the major Western institutions such as the family, marriage, the church and sex. From the literature review carried out, we also diagnose the main legacies that second wave radical feminism offered to feminist thought and how the radical feminist theoretical construction presented a strategic character to the movement.
