A Conversão Proustiana do Tempo Perdido no Tempo Redescoberto

Resumo

Marcel Proust fez da memória o instrumento privilegiado de sua criação literária, assumindo existencialmente a busca do tempo perdido, transformada em suprema vocação artística. A cuidadosa análise da conhecida distinção proustiana entre as duas memórias servirá de prólogo para a interpretação da memória involuntária como o fundamento da Recherche. A originalidade de Proust sobressai com mais nitidez na comparação com a teoria da durée de Henri Bergson, com sua igualmente famosa, mas radicalmente diversa, diferenciação entre as duas formas de memória. Do contraste entre as duas visões, a reflexão sobre a singularidade do romancista adquire mais profundidade e os pilares que sustentam o imenso edifício da recordação proustiana podem ser vistos sob nova luz.

Abstract: Marcel Proust made memory the privileged instrument of his literary creation, existentially assuming the search for the lost time, which he transformed into the utmost artistic achievement. The careful analysis of the renowned Proustian distinction between the two memories will prepare the way for the interpretation of the involuntary memory as the foundation of the Recherche. Proust’s novelty acquires all its prominence when compared to Henri Bergson’s conception of durée, with its equally famous, but radically distinct, differentiation between the two modes of memory. From the contrast between these two outlooks, the reflection upon the novelist’s singularity will gain depth and new light will be shed on the pillars that sustain Proust’s immense edifice of recollection.
