Aetiology and incidence of facial fractures: propective study of 108 pacients

Facial fractures, when not adequately identified and treated, can cause serious functional and esthetic sequelae. The aim of this study was to evaluate, by means of a prospective study, the incidence index of facial fractures in 108 patients cared for the Oral and Maxilofacial Surgery and Traumatology Squad of Porto Alegre Independência Hospital in a period of 15 months. Based in the results, it was concluded that in the managed patients in the facial traumatology Service, the urban violence (36%), transit accidents (19%) and sports (19%) were the principal etiological causes. There was a higher incidence in males in 20 until 30 - year old people.Downloads
