Abstract

Between march and may2020, Portugal lived in confinement, which was always reported by the media, who assumed to guide citizens’ behavior in order to prevent the disease. They were an important agent in fighting the pandemic and they played a huge role in helping people stay home. In a survey to the journalist profession, journalists assumed to have done so, in the first time in democracy, since 1974. They also recognized the increase in fake news and the importance of specialized and official news sources in conveying information that would help people adopt preventive behaviors during this unknown pandemic.
