Different concentration of benzylpenicillin benzatin addition on cryopreserved canine semen using a powdered coconut water extender (ACP-106®)
Abstract
This research aimed at analyzing the effect of benzylpenicillin benzatin addition in different concentrations, on semen motility, morphology and functional spermatic membrane integrity, and of control of bacterial growth on canine semen cryopreserved in ACP-106®. Thirteen ejaculates were used, evaluated and further divided into four aliquots. Each aliquots was extended in ACP-106® with 20% egg yolk and four concentrations of benzylpenicillin benzatin, forming four experimental groups: G0 (without antibiotic); G500 (with 500UI/mL); G1000 (with 1000UI/mL); and G1500 (with 1500UI/mL). After then, the samples were frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen. After about one week, samples were thawed and submitted to spermatic and microbiology evaluations. No differences were observed among groups after thawing regarding seminal parameters, morphology, intact acrossoma and percentual of live spermatozoa, as well for the number of UFC/L. In computerized analyzes, it was also evidenced no differences for all seminal parameters. In conclusion, benzylpenicillin benzatin added to ACP-106® does not control bacterial growth and does not influence spermatic quality after canine semen cryopreservation.Downloads
